Attic Insulation

Proper attic insulation can dramatically reduce heating and cooling costs, reduce wear and tear on your roof, prolong the life of heating and cooling systems while increasing living space comfort.
Insulating your attic is the 1st place you what to invest in energy savings. The Department of Energy recommends an R-Value between R49 and R69 in the state of Colorado. “Over 90% of houses in the state of Colorado are under insulated” according to DOE recommendations. According to the Department of Energy, heating and cooling account for 50 to 70% of the energy used in the average American home. Inadequate insulation and air leaks are the leading causes of energy waste in most homes.
PROPER INSULATION SAVES YOU MONEY
Heated air naturally flows into cooler space. Attic insulation creates thermal resistance, slowing down the rate at which heat flows from warm areas to cooler areas in your home.
In winter, insulation slows heat from flowing into your attic from living spaces below, reducing the amount of time you need to run your heating system in order to maintain comfortable room temperatures. In summer insulation slows heat built up in the attic from penetrating down into air conditioned living spaces below, also cutting costs while reducing wear and tear on your air conditioner. If you have rooms that heat slowly in winter or cool slowly in summer you may have insufficient or uneven insulation levels in your attic.
What is R-value?
R-value is a unit of measurement of resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value the more heat you retain in the winter and the more heat you keep out in the summer.
How can I tell if I have enough R-value insulation?
R49 translates into 16 1/4″ of blown in fiberglass insulation. If you measure less 16 ¼” you are under insulated.
Won’t that much insulation block my eave vents?
Besides insulation, our company prides itself on our expertise in roofing. We recognize that venting is critical to your roofs well being. Lack of eave venting can cause ice dams, roof deterioration, insulation degradation, roof deck rot. Our installers will make recommendations on additional venting if needed.
What type of insulation do we recommend?
G2 Roofing and Insulation recommends Johns Manville Climate Pro fiberglass blowing wool . It is clean, lightweight, noncombustible, non hydroscopic, and won’t support mold or mildew. It has the texture of cotton & contains no chemical by-products. Additionally, Climate Pro has recycled content and is Formaldehyde Free. Other products simply do not measure up.
